Scratch 13th Anniversary Kellerwald - Waldbaden
Scratch turns 13 this year and we're doing something we've been dreaming up for a long time: we're opening the woods behind the brewery for a very special beer tasting.
On Saturday, April 4th, join us for a beer festival outside the box--and outside the brewery. We're setting up stations along a walk through the woods where we normally gather ingredients for our beer. At each station we'll have cask beer pouring alongside wild teas, hot food, and warm fire pits. The loop will take you through some of the most scenic parts of our extended property along a large pond, and through diverse ecosystems that aren't normally open to the public. You'll be able to see the wild areas where we gather our plants and drink the beer made from those ingredients, all in the same place. Special teas at each station help tell the story of how the beer goes from plant to glass accompanied by hot soup, grilled toasts, and other foods (many of which will be made with foraged ingredients from our property) to fill you up on your way to the next station.
Your $50 ticket will include 8 half pours of cask beer, a grilled lunch, and samples of teas and other items along the approximately one-mile tour. Please be aware that there is one moderately strenuous hill to get back up to the main tasting room. (The path is not wheelchair accessible but we can pre-pour samples and provide food to those who can't walk down the hill--please contact us ahead of time to arrange this.) You may begin your walk any time between noon and 4 PM and the stations will stop serving beer at 5 PM so everyone can get back up to the main tasting room while there is still light. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be April 18th. Tickets are available on the shop page on our website.
Inspired by the German tradition of Waldbaden (forest bathing) and a visit to Annafest in Forchheim's Kellerwald, a forest made famous by the cellars where beer is served, we've been dreaming up this special walk through our own beer forest for almost 7 years. It's one of the best ways to experience where our beer comes from, directly in the places where we harvest those ingredients. We're excited to make that dream a reality this year! Scratch will be open all day (noon to 8 pm) for beer in the main tasting room with pizzas from our kitchen like normal, but tickets are required for this special event.
And don't forget that all of April we celebrate our anniversary with cask beer on the patio and hot pizzas coming out of our wood-fired oven. No ticket is needed to drink beer on the patio or in our main tasting room. Join us every Saturday for some special beers served outside in the beautiful spring weather!
Sausage Fest at Stubborn German
Join us for Sausagefest 2026! While our big outdoor 10 year Anniversary Party is the next Saturday (4/25) we will still hold our annual Sausage Competition on April 18th! Also, if you're unable to make it on 4/25, you can come visit us for Sausagefest!

(2) Cooked/hot smoked (deer/beef/pork)
(3) Flavored/other (sausage with additives like cheese/peppers, smokies, other meats, etc.)
If your sausage has cheese or additives, it will go in the Flavored/Other category.
*Deliver sausage to the brewery with casing removed, sliced into approximately 15 pieces, and in a Ziploc bag with your name and phone number on it. If you'd like to give more than 15 pieces, we will put it out in our "sausage share" on Saturday, April 18th for the public to enjoy.
*Judging is on Friday, April 17th. This will be done by an "expert" panel of judges, and will not be judged by the public.
*Winners will be announced between 6-7pm on April 18th and will be contacted the following week. Prizes awarded to 1st and 2nd place in each category.
***Birthday Bock Release***
Every year on our anniversary, we make sure to have a fresh batch of this beer. You can think of it as a cross between a pilsner and a bock in that it has a much brighter hop profile than other Bocks, but still uses a ton of German pilsner malt and is higher in alcohol.

We’re turning 20, and we’re celebrating the only way we know how—with great beer, memorable drinks, delicious food, and the people who made it all possible.
Join us as we debut our 20th Anniversary Beer: a Hazelnut Coffee Barley Wine, brewed especially for this milestone. Rich, bold, and complex, it’s a tribute to two decades of craft and creativity.
For the occasion, we’ll be offering a limited, special appetizer menu, designed to pair perfectly with our anniversary beer and cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, we’re also rolling out a special anniversary cocktail menu, featuring customer favorites and beloved staff picks from throughout the years—drinks that helped define who we are.
We also want to hear your Square One story. Longtime regulars (and new friends alike) are invited to take part in our interactive comment card experience, where you can share how long you’ve been coming to Square One, your favorite beers, drinks, or dishes, and any memories that stand out from the past 20 years.
This celebration is about more than just the beer—it’s about the community that’s been with us every step of the way. Come raise a glass, reminisce, and help us toast to 20 years of Square One…and many more to come.
Great Heart Brewing 1 Year Anniversary
GHBC turns one on Valentine's Day !
We are almost one year old. It feels unbelievable that we opened our doors on 2/14/2025. Over this past year we met so many incredible people. Thank you all so much for your support. We learned a lot and changed along the way. Some of you may even remember the time before full service (it feels like that was a long time ago ). Our menu expanded and we showed our chef Munich to gather new ideas and inspiration for the year ahead.
Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year. We will be open from 11:30AM to 10PM and are planning a full day of celebrations. Will you be our Valentine?
Live music will set the tone throughout the day. Jess will play the accordion from 12 to 2 PM, followed by our Olivette neighbor Jeremy on the guitar from 7 to 9 PM.
We will be offering a special three course set menu with optional beer and wine pairings starting at 3 PM. For the occasion we will also be releasing a Rauchbier, smoky yet still incredibly drinkable.
We are excited to serve Bier vom Fass all day (or until we run out!) We ordered barrels and will be tapping a Fass at 11:30 AM. Beer from the barrel gradually loses a bit of carbonation but gains smoothness and drinkability. It is a very special way to experience beer and a common tradition for house beers in Munich. Once tapped, the barrel must be enjoyed that day.
On the patio during the day we will be stacheln beer with a hot poker. This gently warms the beer, caramelizes the foam, and enhances the overall drinking experience.
3rd Annual Bierstacheln Winter Festival
Join us for some winter fun as we celebrate our 3rd Bierstacheln (beer stabbing) Winter Festival! Buy a custom half liter mug (or bring your own) and enjoy the old German tradition of warming beer with a campfire heated stainless rod.
This hot poking will caramelize residual sugars in the beer, changing the flavor as well as releasing additional CO2 to enhance the mouthfeel.
Our dopplebock is specially brewed for the event but feel free to try our other beers, ciders, or mead as well!
Event is rain or shine and the colder the better!
